Bonassola overlooks a little gulf, surrounded by green hills, where the grapevines and the thin olive trees are protected all around by strong fig-trees. A village with a tradition closely interlaced with the sea, enclosed by two rocks that protect it from the dangers of the wind and the sea waves, it was born as a haven during the raids of the Saracen pirates. You can still admire the remains of the Castle built by Castruccio Castracani degli Antelminelli. Nowadays the centre is a lively seaside resort, but, at the same time, is a peculiar destination, nearly exclusive, with elegant villas halfway up the hills.
